Block Island day trip — Perrotti Park ferry
Our top day-trip pick: walk to the pier at Perrotti Park, 39 America's Cup Avenue, for the seasonal high-speed ferry to Block Island's Old Harbor. Spend the day on the beaches, browsing shops or exploring by bicycle. The crossing takes about one hour each way; reserve your outbound and return sailings. Newport service ran June 19–September 7 in 2026, so it is not running this October. Check the operator for future dates and weather updates. This pin marks the Newport departure pier, not Block Island. Jamestown and Providence ferries also use Perrotti Park.
Walk and drive times are to the Newport pier; allow another 60 minutes on the ferry each way.
Times are measured from the front door at 61 Church Street, not straight-line distance.
Explore Newport by trolley
RIPTA runs Newport's green-and-gold hop-on hop-off trolley buses, and from May 22 to October 31, 2026 they are free to ride. You can leave the car in the driveway at the house and still reach the mansions, the Cliff Walk, the Tennis Hall of Fame and First Beach.
Route 67 — Bellevue, mansions, Cliff Walk
Every 20 minutes on weekdays, every 15 on weekends. Connects The Breakers, Marble House, the Cliff Walk, the Tennis Hall of Fame and the Redwood Library.
Route 68 — First Beach
Runs from the Transportation Center to Easton's Beach, so a beach morning does not need a second car.
231 South Aquidneck Flex
On-demand rides inside the flex zone, including Easton's Beach and the Cliff Walk — book a pick-up in the Flex On Demand app.
Park and ride
Park at the Newport Transportation Center for $5 plus tax with a voucher from your RIPTA driver, then ride for free.
