Guide
Where to stay for a Newport wedding
A whole-house stay on Historic Hill for a Newport wedding weekend: one block from Hotel Viking, with Castle Hill, Ocean Drive and the Bellevue Avenue mansions a short drive away. 61 Church sleeps 4, making it a base for the couple, parents or a small group of wedding guests—not the entire wedding party.
Hotel Viking: one block away
Hotel Viking, at 1 Bellevue Avenue, is a popular Newport wedding destination right in our neighborhood. For Hotel Viking weddings, 61 Church gives you the convenience of staying nearby with a kitchen, separate bedrooms and your own front door instead of a hotel room.
From 61 Church: approximately 0.1 mile · 2–3 minutes on foot. Walk over for a reception or wedding-weekend gathering, then return up the hill without needing to park at the hotel. Check your invitation for the actual ceremony location; a church ceremony may be elsewhere.
Castle Hill & Ocean Drive weddings
Ocean Drive's waterfront venues offer a different side of Newport: sweeping Narragansett Bay views, coastal lawns and sunset receptions. Stay downtown for coffee, restaurants and the rest of the weekend, then travel out for the celebration.
Castle Hill Inn
Castle Hill Inn, 590 Ocean Drive, sits at the entrance to Narragansett Bay. Its waterfront setting makes it a distinctive choice for a Newport coastal wedding.
Approximately 5–6 miles · 15–25 minutes by car. Book a ride or use the couple's shuttle; this is not a practical walk in wedding clothes.
OceanCliff
OceanCliff, 65 Ridge Road, is another popular Ocean Drive-area wedding venue, with a historic estate setting and views across the bay.
Approximately 4–5 miles · 15–20 minutes by car. Allow extra time for coastal-road traffic and confirm where your shuttle picks up downtown.
Mansion weddings on Bellevue Avenue
For a Newport mansion wedding, Historic Hill puts you near the northern end of Bellevue Avenue, with its Gilded Age houses farther south. The mansion named on your invitation matters: visitor attractions do not all offer the same wedding access.
Rosecliff
Rosecliff, 548 Bellevue Avenue, is the classic mansion-wedding choice: a grand ballroom and an ocean-facing setting. It is an easy drive from 61 Church along the Bellevue Avenue corridor.
Approximately 2–3 miles · 8–15 minutes by car · 40–60 minutes on foot. A car or arranged shuttle is usually more comfortable for formalwear, heels or unpredictable weather.
The Breakers and Marble House are nearby sightseeing options for the day before or after the wedding—not interchangeable wedding venues. Explore our Newport mansions guide to plan a separate visit, and follow your hosts' instructions for event entry and parking.
Cliff Walk & harbor-side celebrations
The Chanler at Cliff Walk
The Chanler, 117 Memorial Boulevard, overlooks Easton's Beach at the beginning of Cliff Walk. Its mansion setting brings together ocean views and an intimate Newport wedding atmosphere.
Approximately 1–1.5 miles · 5–12 minutes by car · 25–35 minutes on foot. Walking can suit a fair-weather visit; arrange a ride for the wedding if you would rather arrive without the uphill return.
Belle Mer
Belle Mer, 2 Goat Island, is a waterfront venue overlooking Narragansett Bay, with a contemporary setting for harbor-side ceremonies and receptions.
Approximately 1–1.5 miles · 5–10 minutes by car · 25–30 minutes on foot. The route crosses the Goat Island causeway; a prearranged ride is worth considering for the return after the reception.
Plan the wedding weekend
All distances and travel times above are approximate from 61 Church Street, not live directions. Summer traffic, festival weekends, weather and the venue entrance can change your journey. Check your route on the day, leave a buffer before the ceremony and arrange late-night transport in advance rather than relying on an immediate rideshare.
Ask the couple about a guest shuttle, pickup location and final return time. Our parking guide covers the house's tandem driveway and nearby options; venue parking is separate and should be confirmed with your hosts.
A kitchen makes breakfast and the morning before the wedding simpler, while nearby Thames Street and Broadway offer places to meet for coffee or dinner. See the house layout before deciding who stays together. The house is accommodation only: no parties or events.
Minimum stays and rates depend on your dates and the season. Check availability and book direct, and review our rates and house rules before making wedding-weekend plans.
