A downtown Newport rental with on-site parking

What you get

The on-site space fits one truck or two compact cars parked in tandem. Two cars share the pad nose-to-tail, so plan which vehicle comes and goes first.

03

More than two cars

All other cars should park one block up on the street. In season that street parking is not free: downtown meters are pay-by-plate at about $2 per hour with a three-hour maximum from May 1 to October 31, and most residential streets require a resident parking sticker overnight (roughly 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.) from May 1 to December 1. From November 1 through April 30 meters are free but time limits remain. Read the signs on the block before leaving a car overnight.

04

Mary Street lot, one block away

Parking is also available in the Mary Street lot one block away, between lower Mary Street and lower Church Street. It is open 24 hours a day year-round with 124 spaces, and a public restroom on site in season. It is a pay-by-plate lot in season (May 1–October 31): pay at the station next to the restroom or with the Passport app (zone 40106). Resident-sticker holders get up to three free hours per day, but that does not apply to guests.

05

Versus the garages

Downtown garages and lots fill on summer weekends and charge by the hour or day. With a space at the door, you drive in once and leave the car until checkout.

Questions

Is parking included?
Yes. The on-site space at the house fits one truck or two compact cars parked in tandem — no separate fee.
What about additional cars?
Park them on the street one block up. In season (May 1–October 31) downtown street parking is pay-by-plate — check the signs — and most residential streets restrict overnight parking to permit holders May 1–December 1. Off season, meters are free but time limits remain in effect.
Is there a lot nearby?
Yes. The Mary Street lot is one block away and open 24 hours year-round, with 124 spaces. It is pay-by-plate in season (May 1–October 31), paid at the station or with the Passport app.
Is street parking free?
Not reliably in season. Downtown meters run about $2/hour (three-hour maximum) May 1–October 31, and many residential streets require a resident sticker overnight in season. From November 1 to April 30 there is no meter fee, but time limits still apply. Always check the posted signs.
